Is the TOEFL required by international applicants?
Non-native English speakers do not need to take the TOEFL to be considered for admission to the program. However, the program is taught in English, so an understanding and comprehension of the language is required.
Is GMAT or GRE required?
Yes, a satisfactory score on the GMAT or GRE is a requirement for admission. However, this requirement is automatically waived if you can demonstrate a minimum of five years of professional or business experience. At JWMI, we assess who is going to be successful by looking at many real-life indicators—including professional work history and undergraduate GPA.

What is the required satisfactory GMAT or GRE score required for admission?
A satisfactory grade is defined as a minimum acceptable cumulative score of 450 on the GMAT or a minimum acceptable cumulative score of 300 on the GRE.
What is required in the personal essay?
As part of your admissions requirements, all applicants must write a 400–600-word essay on one of three predetermined topics. The essay provides a great opportunity to demonstrate the strategic thinking necessary to maintaining success in our MBA program.
Do you accept transfer credits?
JWMI accepts transfer credits for up to four classes from other accredited educational institutions. Transfer class eligibility is based on curriculum subject matter and passing grades of B or better. Please speak with a member of the Advising Department to determine your eligibility.
Are there any allowances for students with a CFA, CPA or CMA?
Yes, incoming students who are Chartered Financial Analysts (CFAs), Certified Public Accountants (CPAs) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) might be eligible for transfer credit for the following JWMI courses: Economics (JW515), Financial Management I (JWI530), and Financial Management II (JWI531). To be considered for credit, students must obtain proof that they are current charter-holders in good standing. As stated above, JWMI will only accept credits for up to four classes
MBA Cost
How much is MBA tuition?
JWMI MBA tuition is $3,850 per course. The total cost for the MBA degree is $46,200. This excludes books and materials fees.
Do I have to purchase books separately?
Yes. The cost of books will vary depending on the course and book format. Many of our books are available on Audible as well as online retailers.
What additional fees are charged each term?
Nominal material fees are charged per term. They are $150 fee for the first course and $100 fee for each of the 11 remaining courses. For additional details on fees, please: click here.
What methods of cash payment do you accept?
If you are paying for your MBA out of pocket, we accept check, debit or credit card as forms of payment. Unfortunately, at this time, we are unable to accept PayPal, Venmo or other types of electronic fund transfers.
What materials are needed for class aside from books?
Outside of the cost of tuition, fees, and books, students will need access to a computer and the internet. Standard word processing software required for class can be downloaded using your student ID for no cost or at a discounted rate. Please speak with your advisor if you have more specific questions.

MBA Course Details
How do you grade students?
JWMI’s grading policy aligns with other elite MBA programs including Stanford and Columbia. Honors (H), High Pass (HP), Pass (PAS), and Low Pass (LP) are considered passing grades. Unsatisfactory (UNS) fails to meet MBA standards.
Is group work required for classes?
Yes, group work may be required in some classes. Students will work in small groups to complete assignments or projects. Groups frequently communicate during this class through video and phone conferences as well as email, chat, and text to complete the required work.
Can you give me an idea of the weekly time requirements?
Each class can vary, but you should estimate 10–15 hours of coursework per class.
How many weeks do your quarters run?
Classes run every ten weeks. There are three-week breaks following each 10-week session.
How many students are in a class?
JWMI's average class size is less than 20 students.
What is the format of the classes?
A combination of discussion questions, learning journals and assignments are due each week and test your knowledge of the assigned readings and videos. There are no live sessions. Students can complete each week’s requirements at their own pace. Group work is required in one class.
Are there any tests or quizzes as part of the curriculum?
In addition to weekly discussion posts, students are required to submit assignments usually in weeks 3, 6, and 9. Assignments can take the form of quizzes, papers, PowerPoint presentations, and video-recorded presentations.
What are discussion questions?
Discussion questions count for your weekly class participation. This is your opportunity to respond to a topic each week, and engage with your classmates and receive feedback from your professor. Initial posts to the topic posed each week are due by Wednesday at midnight your time. You are required to respond to at least two of your peer’s initial posts by Sunday at midnight.

Is your program online only?
Yes, the Jack Welch MBA programs are delivered 100% online to provide a convenient and flexible way for busy working professionals to obtain their MBA without interrupting their careers.
How big is your program?
Over 2,000 students are currently enrolled in our program; we maintain online classroom sizes of 15–22 students per class which promote optimal learning outcomes.
Are there any career services available in this program?
Each JWMI student is assigned an academic advisor who connects them to appropriate career-related resources throughout their program. Students also have access to communication coaches, quarterly student webinars with Deans, bi-monthly leadership webinars, local networking events, an online networking group, and periodical subscriptions to support their career development. And each course is career-focused.
Do you offer Ph.D. courses in business?
JWMI does not offer doctoral programs at this time.
Is JWMI a separate school from Strayer?
JWMI is a part of Strayer University. Strayer University is an accredited institution and a member of the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE), http://www.msche.org. Strayer University’s accreditation status is Accreditation Reaffirmed. MSCHE most recently reaffirmed Strayer University’s accreditation status in June 2017, with the next self-study evaluation scheduled for the 2025–2026 academic year. MSCHE is an institutional accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).
What resources are available at a Strayer campus?
JWMI students have access to the Strayer Campus and its resources. Students are welcome to use the library and classrooms despite all JWMI classes being taught 100% online.
What does the leadership quiz tell me about myself?
The leadership quiz evaluates participants regarding energy, the ability to energize, edge, execution, and passion. Jack Welch coined the "4Es and a P" of leadership. The results are intended to provide insight into your strengths and your weaknesses as it relates to those 5 categories to showcase areas for improvement as you strive to become a more well-rounded leader.
