Certificate FAQs

What are the requirements for admission into the JWMI certificate program?

While the Jack Welch MBA is selective in its admissions process, JWMI's Certificate Program is designed for inclusivity. In other words, there are technically no requirements for admission -- besides an authentic desire to improve one's skills and knowledge and a true willingness to contribute to classroom discussions.

Who teaches the JWMI certificate programs?

Unlike many other schools where certificates are delegated to adjunct staff, all JWMI certificate programs are taught by the Institute's best faculty. Each highly-qualified certificate instructor holds an MBA, a PhD, and in some cases, both degrees. And all JWMI certificate instructors are graduates of the Institute's three-week training course in Jack Welch's unique principles, practices, and educational pedagogy.

How are JWMI certificate programs conducted? Is everything online?

JWMI's certificate programs are entirely online -- and yet you might be surprised how intimate and interactive online classrooms can be. Courses consist of lectures, videos, cases, challenge questions, and articles. Jack Welch introduces each certificate program with special web-based video presentation. Daily classroom discussion takes place on chat boards, although students are also welcome to speak with their teachers or classmates on the phone if the need arises.

Are the certificate programs graded?

The programs are graded on a pass-fail basis, with a passing grade earned by active participation in classroom discussions.

I have eight years of managerial experience. Will I be in a class with someone who's just starting out?

Because each JWMI certificate involves different levels of intensity and presumes different previous levels of work experience, our Admissions Advisors work closely with each applicant to make sure an appropriate match between student and Certificate Program is made. Within the classroom itself, our faculty is carefully trained to make the most of differing levels of work experience.

Who wrote and developed the JWMI certificate program curriculum?

Like our MBA curriculum, our certificate coursework was developed by a team of business scholars who are experts in their fields, working under the supervision of Steve Kerr, the renowned "dean of American business education" and JWMI's Executive Director, as well as noted business academic Patricia Gorman Clifford, JWMI's Dean. Indeed, one of our key differentiators is that all JWMI certificates are created in-house rather than by generic educational vendors.

Finally, because each certificate program is deeply infused with the teachings and practices of Jack Welch, their coursework also draws heavily on Jack's writings and videos. Jack himself designed the BECOMING A LEADER certificate and was intricately involved in creating its curriculum.

Have students been satisfied with JWMI's programs?

Student satisfaction with the JWMI educational experience has been exceptionally high. Alumni tell us that that JWMI's curriculum is smart, lively, and fascinating, and perhaps most important of all, immediately applicable on the job. It is clear that, from Day One, the practices and principles taught in the JWMI classroom are helping build better, more expansive thinkers and problem-solvers.

How many certificates can I take at a time?

We suggest one certificate at a time for the maximum immersion experience and to give you enough time to absorb the coursework and contribute to classroom discussion. That said, some students with less intense work and life situations do elect to take two or more simultaneously.

What do I get for completing a certificate?

Each graduate of the JWMI Certificate Program receives a framed and personalized Jack Welch Management Institute certificate signed by Jack Welch.

How can I pay for my JWMI Certificate Program?

Our Admission Advisors are happy to discuss our flexible payment plans with you. There is no enrollment fee.

What kind of student support systems are available?

Students in Jack Welch Management Institute certificate programs have full access to the specially trained student service professionals who work with our MBA students. Our team is eager to address any questions, from course materials to career planning. Your total satisfaction with the JWMI experience is critical to us.
